Where are you Now? #31

 It is always difficult to measure our  own progress.We really do not want to be truthful with ourselves.
Or maybe we are not good at it either!

Either way it will cost Us, because of it.


Facing the music as they say is not always a pretty sight!
But one thing is clear, you do not have to remember any lie!
That part is easier.
So how do you manage to be True and still not hurt so Bad!?
Here are my suggestions:
Tears (healthy release of our emotions)
Jere's (other people's negatives, discount them)
Year's ( what you will gain by being your True Self )
It is all pretty simple stuff and it is definitely not Rocket Science people!
So let's pick ourselves up, and move forward one foot @ a time. We can do it!

Jump's

Spring is forever eternal. Who said that? I don't remember , do any of you? If so please blog back and tell me too!

For now we will just know that it does. Otherwise how would we all get through such a very long Winter.
I start thinking of Spring in January, when I get my first glimpse of my seed catalogs,the Robins coming back,
the birds in the trees making more noise, or any temperature above 10' degrees!

Then there is the first Spring flower, Johnny Jump Up's... They are the cutest things, they look like a small version of a violet, but much more durable, and can survive our harsh winters.

Then of course comes our Pussywillows, what would we look forward to without these little pillows of soft.
They remind me of Q-tips on a stick! lol. I even told my friend that one day, who thinks I am now a little more crazy than I was before!
Of course we can't pass the the next spring thing to do, the Puddles,yes those wet, round circles of water, not ice,
when we all get a pant legs wet, our dogs soaked, and our floors looking like a Mud slide just came through the doors!
As we proceed down our list the next one is Spring Shower's, hmmmmmmmmmmm, those make our air smell so clean, and fresh.
I have literally taught my daughter since she was but a wee child how to smell the changes in the weather by the air, she loved my goofiness, and so much so now we both teach her daughter and my granddaughter how to tell the seasons. Their are differences really.
So let's recap here:

  •  Spring showers
  • Mud on floors, wet dogs,wet pant legs

BYOB

We all know what this abbreviation stands for most commonly is Bring your Own Bottle!
It my case it stands for Bring Your Own Body!
If you watch the Emmy's or the upcoming Oscars, just take a look @ what these Actors, Actress, and just Celebs do to their Bodies to maintain a certain Body Image!
It is Mind-Blowing, and sometimes Shocking too! As some have had to gain enormous amounts of weight for a part, that Fat Suits cannot mimick, or loose massive amounts of weight for a part, the Enormous tolls it takes on their Bodies is more than it should be put through, and still they do it!
Why? because we as their audience will pay to go see them in the movies.
Even with expert medical care, and supervision, their are huge scarfices and risks involeved in both and ones that
are hard to imagine.
While we as mere mortals and ordinary human beings, struggle to maintain a healthy body weight and image everyday.
We have to wonder how to do the simplest things, rethink our everyday habits, and redo our focus.
In our own way we are acting too, but the role has real meaning and consequences, it is our Lives.
What will you choose next time you want something to Eat? will you consciously choose good over bad?

Spring is Coming!?

As our days get longer, and the Earth is getting warmer, it won't be too much longer for the Robins, the buds on the trees, and green grass to comeback!
Oh God, I hope so, it has been a very, very long Winter.

As a transplant from New York, I keep on telling myself each and every year, if you make it to January it is all down hill from there. Well that did not help this year. 
It has been a Snowball globe marathon!

Dreammaker's

Today is February 22, 2011. Now to quote Winston Churchill a day to go down in History!

Why?

Because 11 years ago I lost my husband to Pancreatic Cancer!
It is a terrible,painful, disease, incurable, and usually slow-wasting.
I never knew what hit Me or Us until we got the news that  day back in February of 1997.
We were both expecting something much simpler, easy, and not a Death Sentence!

But instead we took our news, cried together, moved forward as best we could and made the most of the time we had left.
My husband went through a lot of procedures, surgeries, chemo, radiation, and this was to just make his quality of Life,,, manageable, not curable, not curable.!
What did we get, we got to go to Canada, he wanted to see it, we did, he got to see his daughter Marry, see & hold his 1st grand child,we celebrated our 31st Wedding Anniversary, his granddaughter's 1st Birthday, my 47th Birthday, then He couldn't fight any longer, and we asked God to take him back, so he could Rest, Yes that day and others were days of Infamy to me, and as time passed it became better, but @ times No less Painful!

So Today our 42nd Anniversary, I got this Brillant Idea to Celebrate the Life I have been given, not the things that were taken away. So I created another Leg to my businesses and created

Remember the Hane's commercial? Look who's wearing them now!

Yes and I say when you start shedding the weight, those leg's start looking pretty Dam Nice again!
They start to get their firmness back, those little dimples disappear, and we show them off more.
I know I do, and I want to wear tighter pants too.
Why not? when it is not a Tent you are displaying on your legs it is Fun to show off those parts again!
We all are looking for ways to get our bodies back to some form of normalency, it is not easy, quick, or without sacrifices.
What it is though is Rewarding, Healthier,Looks Great, Feels Great, Our Knees thank Us,

The Neck #23

Names for that part of our body can be very insulting to the owner!
I will give you all a few examples.
  • Turkey neck
  • Jello Neck
  • Elephant Hide
  • Flabby Neck
Now I also know that as we age this part of our anatomy changes. It becomes looser,which makes it appear larger.
Then it will wiggle, or make our snapshots look Dam Awful!
So this is what I do to make some of this appear better than it is...
It is a little trick a model taught Me.... Tighten up your Jaw Muscles when posing for a snapshot!
It really does work, and there is less sag!
Of course we all want the tighter skin back, but other than doing surgery to get that firmer look, we are a product of our Age.
What can improve this area of course as with everything, is eating a balanced diet, exercising, good mositurizer,
genetics do play a role in this too, and of course do what many have done wear collars all year long!lol...

My best suggestion is this, remember the movie Big Fat Greek Wedding!?
Where Aunt Athena is Welcoming the parents of the boyfriend?
She was the one who had the Travel Agency.
In the movie as it is Greek Tradition, they ply you with Orzo and keep telling you Drink Up you Greek Now!
Well as they get snockered, she tells them a story about her visit to her Doctor about the Alien in her body!
He is how she tells it to them.
I can tell you now because you two are family, I went to a gynecligist, or you know a Doctor of some kind,
He tells me I have a growth on my neck! OMG, a growth! Yes a growth he says, but what do we do about that?
We operate and cut it open! Cut it open she replies, why? to see what's inside, and make sure it is not Cancer.
They proceed to schedule the procedure, they cut it open, and you know what they find inside say Aunt Athena.
They find a small Alien,,,,! with legs and small tiny arms, but it is all right now, because they cut it out, and I cannot become anything. You Greek now see nothing Bad ever Happens to the Greeks!
Now if this story and the laughter does not make you feel better about your flabby neck area, nothing will!
Besides you Greek Now and Nothing Happens to The Greeks!!!! lol...

Eyes #21

The coined phrase "The Eyes Have it" was a very poignant statement. 
I have been told by many a person that our Eyes are our windows to our very Souls!? Haunting isn't it?
Do you think of your Eyes that way?
As you put on your makeup?
When they look back at you in the mirror?
When your Lover hold's their embrace?
Or when someone tells you they are just pools of deliciousness?
Or when someone shares their pain with Us? 
Or our own sorrow?
How do you really feel about those (2) round spheres that let Us See!
I know without them we would miss out on much, our Lives would be vastly different, and ourselves forever changed!
So when someone says too you what beautiful Eye's you have relish in that moment, enjoy the deep satisfaction it gives you, or should give you, because God has given each of Us very irreplaceable things that make each one of Us very Unique!

Cheekbones #20

Remember when Grand-Ma use to squeeze our little cheeks till it hurt!?
We all just hated that, and told our Mommy so. But she kept on doing it every time she seen us.

Then as we got older that changed to a Big Hug, and a sloppy kiss on the cheeks.
I think I liked the pinching better!

Then when we were young adults she totally switched things up and just took our hands and squeezed them a little.
Finally we were all grown up and stood taller than her, then everything went back to when we were little and we pinched her cheek a little and kissed her cheek.

The moral of this story is we had Cheekbones back then!? Not the pudgy little faces we grew into because of our choices. Then the choices got better, we got smarter, and We all got our Cheekbones Back!
How do you like them?
They really do Define and Frame our faces.
Historians use to make sure all the famous Presidents, Leaders, Politicians paintings captured this feature correctly.
What have you captured since seeing those Beautiful Cheekbones Again!?

Mirror #19

Who's that in The Mirror asked Sleeping Beauty? The Wicked Witch answered it is I the most beautiful Queen of all the land! Sleeping Beauty looked again, and the reflection she saw was something quite different then what the Wicked Witch saw.
Her own image had changed, her face was thinner, her eyes more defined, her lips fuller and sexy.
What was this? a optical illusion? was the Witch tricking her?

No it was no trick, no illusion, it was all that hard work she had been doing over the last several months.
Working out more, eating right, and just taking better care of herself!
Now our lives are not the Dreamy Fairy Tale we all grew up with, but they can be a more Healthy one.
And Yes, Sleeping Beauty was The most Beautiful Woman in the land, but she was also the most Shy, and Modest.

So what do you see when you look in the Mirror every morning, do you see a Sleeping Beauty?

"Smaller Sizes" #18

We have all been there before, maybe for some of us several times.
Like a rollcoaster ride, when we go Up &Down several times before the ride is finally done.
And we are either sick from all of those up& downs or tired.
It is hard work to maintain your weight, your new You!
I am not going to sugar-coat this for you, No never ever, It Is Dam Hard Work!
How can you make it easier?
What can you do to maintain it?
Will I gain it all back?

These are all fair questions, and the answers are as Plain as the nose on your Face.
Here are my solutions speaking only from personal experience and many years of therapy.. 
No just kidding on the threapy .lol
You need to find out what motivates you, not your friends, you.
Everyone, and I mean everyone has different hot buttons,that means why we do things the way we do.
You can't get off easy here using someone Else's hot buttons, No, No, No, that is a plan waiting for Failure! 
You have to dig inside yourself deep and find out why You do what you do.
How you deal when it comes to Food, Decisions, Life. 
Do you grab the first thing in the fridge when you get home from work?
Or do you stop and say, heh, I don't think so!
There is always a sub-conscious choice going on inside our brains, and that sub conscious choice or switch as I like to call it needs RE-PROGRAMING! RE-BOOTING< RE-LOADING< RE-IGNITION! 
If you do the Homework ahead of time before you get to this point, with the rediscovery classes on You, you will have the Will-power to resisit these urges, the Bad decsions, choices, and faliures that have always happenned in the past.
Why, because you learned What, and Who they are, and now can make better informed ones.
You will see these learned lessons spill into all of your life, I am not kidding in this one. 
Frankly it gets a little scary at first, and some of your family and friends may not like it, they even may question you about it.
All I can say is this, stand up for the New You, and explain this is who you are now, and they will either Love you for it, or not. But if they truly Love you, they will support you no matter what changes you took, and see that they have made you better through it All!
So there you have it, your Recipe for Success, and I know you will all be your Own Success Stories.

We all like to put those pair of jeans on that were a little tight once, almost couldn't get them on without laying Flat on your Back tight!
Today you go into that same closet, pull out those same jeans, and OMG>>> they are too Big!
What happenned there, did they grow bigger overnight? did someone add more material so I wouldn't feel bad?
It is a Cold NO>>> to the above, You have lost that middle... And we all know what that means,
No Snuggies, No Sucking in the Gut till you get them buttoned and then only to
HOPE> PRAY> the Button doesn't pop off and take someone's Eye out with it!!!!LOL>>>>

Yes Girlfriends, or Guy friends, you have succeded in loosing instead of accepting your Fate!

Weight Control #16

Weight Control or maintenance as the experts like to call it. 
What does that mean?
How can I continue my success?
What should I do?
Do I need  more tools?


Maintenance  is  really a complex word, and it has a few strings attached to it!
Let me explain by giving you a few examples.
  • Stress
  • Exercise
  • Animals
  • De stress
In order to maintain anything you have to deal with the above examples.
How do you do that, let's break them down into simpler terms.


Stress:
  1. Work
  2. Friends
  3. Responsibilities
  4. Bills
  5. Not enough time in a day
When you look at some of the things I picked out to just give you some of the most common stresses in our lives, you can see it won't take much to tip you off your maintenance.

Exercise:
  1. Walking
  2. Biking
  3. Dancing
  4. House cleaning
  5. Treadmill or other equipment
Your list can be different the whole Key here is move something for at least 10-20 minutes a day!

Animals: Love this one!
  1. They need exercise
  2. We love to interact with them
  3. We bring them places as our companions
  4. Watching them is a two fold thing it brings Us calmness.
 De stress:
  1. Breathing exercises
  2. Massage
  3. Animals
  4. Writing or journal
  5. Talking with a good friend
Again this is a beginning list yours can be longer, shorter, or have different items on it.
The point of this exercise as I see it is to continue your journey of the Healthier You and find your tools to do it!

Is everyone Happy!? What makes you Happy?
Is it buying yourself something Shiny?
How about something for your wardrobe?
Another pair of shoes?
A gadget for your car?
A gadget for your kitchen?

Any of these are good as long as their done in moderation.
We all like to reward ourselves for a job Well-Done, it is like someone else patting Us on the back.
It is that same feeling except with a price tag attached to it.
So that is why I said with moderation, because going overboard with things can be just as Dangerous as rewards done with Food! You need to keep these impulses in Check too!
For the moment let's discuss what I like to use for my rewards when I have accomplished a goal.
  • A massage
  • New clothing item
  • Walking shoes
  • Spending a day with a good friend
  • Creating new recipe in my kitchens
  • Taking a new walking path with my dog Travis
  • Calling my children to tell them
All of these suggestions are as individual as you are, so change them as your goals change, but keep making goals and keep challenging yourself and others to join you in your Walk of Life!

Goal Setting #13

We are refueling ourselves with only positive feedback. What does that mean Doctor says the patient.
Well replies the Doctor, it means what makes you want to do something in the first place!?
The patient sits there for a minute and looks a bit blank and then starts to tell him what motivates her each and every day.
Here is what she said:
  • Avoiding future health problems

'Falling in Love" #12

Valentine's Day is right around the corner, what can we do to make it a Healthier Day?
  1. Does Falling in Love even for awhile really make our endorphins go crazy?
  2. Can we overeat because of it?
I have some answers for the above questions.
Speaking from my  personal experiences only I can tell you it is Yes for both.
The whys are different for each one of us.
For me it is like a feeling of Euphoria, I can't wait too see him again, smell his cologne, look in his eyes and kiss those lips!
How does Food work in this equation, we get unusual cravings when we have all those hormones roaming free & wild in our systems!
Chocolate is one of those cravings, Salty is another, then you might even add Sour to the mix.
It all depends how elevated your moods are at the time of the cravings.
Now what can we do about it?
Look in the mirror it is a simple practice that reassures us we are okay.
What we will see is this:
  • More Confidence
  • Better Posture
  • A firm body
  • More outgoing
  • Smaller size
  • A Brand New You
So keep up the Hard Work, but also Keep Love Alive it is another one of those constants in our Universe!

Weird taste in my mouth! #10

Taste,Texture,Appearance. The (3) Biggies when eating. I know we think we don't care, but really are you going to eat something that tastes like Dog Poop!? I don't think so! There are a lot of foods that if they are combined with other foods just will make your mouth start to water and your stomach start to roll, and you all know what comes next.So to avoid this terrible thing, make sure you are putting good quality foods into the Body which is your very own Temple! Then you will never ever have to Wash, Brush, Gargle for the next (2) hours straight to get that awful taste out of your mouth! Of course we all like the word YES>>> YES>>> YES>>>> but then we grow up and realize you get a  lot of No's with each of those matching Yes's.  The No's follows things we cannot do. That of course is a real Bummer, downer, or just plain SUCKS!!! As the kids say... But I am going to find everyone another Big Fat YES!!!!

Like the movie Gig Fat Greek Wedding (Loved that Movie).. We will take from the word Yogurt and add the word Greek God's Yogurt... This is the Best Yogurt on the freeking Planet... It is smooth, loaded with

Just a bite!#8

What is the secret to loosing weight? how am I going to shed these pounds before whatever event?
These are all questions I think the Universe asks themselves.
The simple answer as I see it is food portions sizes, combinations of foods, and No Processed foods.
Of course if you absolutely have to have something, because those Cravings are worse than giving birth pains, then have Just one Bite.
Remember when the Big thing was taking a one bite of something and spitting it out? it wasn't for the food value, or for satisfying Hunger, it was for just the Taste!. We all thought it was the next Big Weight Lost Plan, really.
The movie stars were doing it, Farrah Fawcett, Elizabeth Taylor, they swore by it, so of course they must know, they look Fantastic! Of course what we did not know was they like everyone else gained weight too, and when their bodies could not take the eating, then the purging, then the starving they went to The Fat Farms, and had work done.We do not have that luxury, and it is very hard on our bodies even if we could afford it!
So what can we do? We can eat moderately, eat 6-8 small meals per day, including snacks.
Drink 4-8 glasses of water, skip drinking Soda,have Black Tea or Coffee (2-4 cups a day), eat Greek Yogurt for digestion, and avoid Processed Foods like it was a Plague!
This will take training, like for the first 2-4 weeks you will be tempted to over indulge, but after you do you will feel bloated, and uncomfortable and then realize, you feel so much better when you don't do it.  Wallah you gradually are just doing it Naturally.
That is what Dieting (Hate,Hate that Word) is, a gradual change in how we look and eat food.This is the Key to Successful weight Loss, No shiny pills, No Magic Tricks, No Fancy Diet, just plain common sense approach to how you deal with food! Can't touch this!?#7

Okay people our favorite shows on The Boob tube tonight, what ever it is doesn't matter. We already eaten dinner, and our stomachs say heh, itsn't it snack time? Ohhhhhhhhh, but you are watching your waistline and say No way, I can't touch anything in that kitchen.....! Wrong,,, you can have my creation for the best tasting popcorn this side of New York City... Really...
Here is how it is made... take a 1/4 of popcorn + 1/4 of dark olive oil pour into a 4quart heavy bottom saucepan with tight lid and put on stove flame or electric to high till popping starts. Keep the pan roting around till all the popping noise stops and then pour out into large bowl add a little Sea salt on each layer as it goes into the bowl.
This is very, very, low-calorie. (2) 8oz bowls 100 calories. Fiber, Flavor and you are full afterward. Problem solved.divadishkitchenscatering.com

This little Piggy#6

Following the Miss Potters story book, this Little Piggy, I am sure she did not have in mind how we as a Nation have gotten this way.
Why TV and ads in our papers will not rest till we all have weight problems or diseases from our weight problems.
How can we as a Nation and a properous country tell them No-MORE!
I think we need to solicit the help of our congress, our legislators, our pet dogs!
I mean it, my dog Travis is the best Weight Watcher I own. He is a very active Border -Colie Mix Breed.
He needs a walk every day. So who's going to do it if I don't put on my walking boots, and get him out the door. 
He is the best piece of exercise equipment I own, and I do own a Treadmill & a Bowflex which I do use (3) times a week religiously, and not for a clothes rack either.lol.
So take a little aspiring advice from Miss Divadish, pitch the Dish, and take a walk, the exercise will do you good, and the dog will thank you by licking your face soaking wet all over! What could be better than that!

Biggest Loser#5

We all hear the TV hype about how we all need to slim down to a reasonable size.
Super-Size me is No longer in Mcdodonald's commericials advertising.
Taco-Bell's is now pushing veggie taco's
Arby's is back to pushing the BBQ everything hamburger
Domino's is limiting you to 256 pizza's deliveries.
Every commercial on TV is Food Gluttony.
We just don't stand a chance, we are consistently bombarded with it 24/7
So here is my common sense approach to the obvious over-eating they are forcing Us to watch.
The MUTE> BUTTON> if you cannot hear the ads, and how they so deliciously describe all that food splendor you are less likely to go to your fridges and Pig-OUT!

Firming your Batwings!

Hello everyone:
As a person who will try almost anything to keep looking modestly good, I found a simple exercise that works on that problem area we so nicely call "The Batwing " skin under the forearms. As we loose weight this skin losses it's elasticity and it swings or spreads like a Bat's Wing's, hence the name it has so doubly received, Batwings!
The little Secret Remedy.... is using a elastic Rubber band exercise rope. You can get them @ any Sports equipment department in almost any store. Using this rubber band as I like to call it, will tighten up that flab and make your Batwing's look much better. Now I am professing  a complete Miracle here.. I am saying if you have lost a normal amount of weight, and if you do this simple stretching exercise (3) times a week, 50-100 times per arm it will definitely help! I have been doing it now over 8+ years and my arms do not do their own Dancing by themselves! And that my friends makes Me a very HAPPY-GIRL!!!!!

"Loose Your Baggage"

My version of a BLT Sandwich. I use lean slices of pre-cooked Hormel Bacon @ 17 calories a strip x 5 =85 calories
Add (2) slices of Artisan Raisin Bread or Dill Sage 100 calories
Add lettuce & tomato No Calories
Add 1/ tsp of butter & mayo mixed together as spread on bread 20 calories
Add 2 slices of any fruit or whole fruit if you want.15 calories
Total calories as pictured:220 calories
When you are adding good food to your menus and eliminating the Fast-Food
or Junk Foods from your regular eating habits, you will begin to see a gradual change in your External Baggage Weight Limits, and start feeling Less Weighed Down by all that Weight.
